Garvey's Alliance of Science Club

The Garvey’s Alliance of Science Club is for students passionate about learning more about Science through “LIVE” demonstrations and engaging experiments that are fun and student-led. Garvey’s Alliance of Science club started in 2006 and throughout the years, over 100 experiments have been demonstrated by students, we have had dozens of surprise Science guest speakers, we have been to Griffith Park Observatory over 20 times, we have held over 50 fundraisers, and have had hundreds of students move on and graduate College with a Science degree and start their careers doing something that is Science based. Our mission is to give students the opportunity to become passionate about Science before they move on to High School so they can become the leaders that do amazing things by having a more solid foundation in the field of Science. 

 

In-person meetings will be held every week on Friday starting from 9/25/2026

From 2:45pm to 3:30pm. Voting for officers will also be on 9/25/2026.
 

  • Bi-monthly Science demonstrations and interactive lessons
    Science Movies and documentaries
  • Guest speakers like JPL engineers, PhD Marine Biology students
  • Gardening with Mr. Jesse and Mr. Michael
  • Food Science activities (Ice cream, Taffy, Noodles, Kim Chee)
  • Fundraisers like making Spam Musubi and selling Dippin Dots 
  • Science Field Day Mark Keppel High School Invitational (based on High school standards)
  • Winter break Potluck and Social meet-up at Dave and Busters
  • Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair (March 2026)
    Los Angeles County Science Olympiad Competition (February, 2026)
  • Los Angeles County Science Bowl and IAC competition (December 2026)
  • Griffith Park Observatory Field Trip
  • Science Club T-shirt design contest
  • End of the year Potluck

 

Science Club Rules

 

  1. You may not have more than 3 unexcused absences unless permission is granted by our executive board.
  2. You must participate in 2 fundraisers to attend to the Griffith Observatory field trip. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. You must do at least 1 presentation by yourself or with a group.
  4. Pay attention and do not talk when people are speaking or presenting in the front.
  5. No food or drinks are allowed in the laboratory except on celebration days.
  6. Please clean up after yourself.
  7. No electronics will be allowed to be in use in the lab, (Phones, Ipods, etc.) unless permitted by an executive or an advisor. 
  8. You must have a good academic standing. No F’s and No U’s
  9. No bullying. Be respectful to everyone. 
  10. You must write your name (clearly and neatly) on the sign in sheet. 
  11. Please cooperate with the Science Club executives.
  12. If you are planning to miss a meeting, please alert an executive or advisor beforehand so your absence would be excused.
  13. You must sign in by 2:45 and stay until the duration of the meeting (around 3:45) unless you have exceptions from an executive or advisor.
